From astronaut figures and hanging spaceships guests can explore the park. Play some water basketball in the activity pool. Swim laps early in the morning in the exercise pool. Experience the countdown of the Mercury rocket as it dumps hundreds of gallons of water at blast off. Fire water cannons on our kid-sized lunar lander. MISSOURI

Splash Country Indoor Waterpark
at Grand Country Resort

In the country music oasis that Brason has become it was really just a matter of time before an indoor waterpark was erected to cool off the tourists all year long! Missouri's first indoor waterpark has a three - level treehouse as its centerpiece with interactive water play features on each level. Grand Pa Grand features a pair of enclosed tube slides. The treehouse is topped with a 1,000 gallon tipping bucket which dumps water on its giddy patrons every eight minutes. The park also features a basketball play area, a toddler pool with jumping water, bungee swings, a frog slide, an Ozark Trout slide, and rocking toads. A 250 foot lazy river meanders through the natural landscape of an Ozark river bank. The river bank features multiple seasons, possible because of large windows that bring natural outdoor surroundings of woods and a dry creek bed, all enveloped by surrounding growth commonly found along Ozarks creeks.

OHIO

Castaway Bay at Cedar Point

Sandusky, Ohio
419-627-2106

Owned by the Cedar Point amusement park and located just beyond the causeway this Radisson property went in for a massive makeover and emerged in November of 2004 as Castaway Bay. The park is more intimate than the two larger parks a few miles South on 250, but tropical lighting and festive decor make it one of the best themed parks in the country. There are a few modest body slides, a wave pool, and a 520 - foot Master Blaster water coaster that is the top draw. In our visit in the summer of 2006, we were able to purchase passes as non-hotel guests on a weekday ( $24.00 for the full day pass, $14.00 for the evening pass, and we were offered $8.95 evening passes as guests at another Cedar Point resort ).

Fort Rapids Waterpark Resort
Holiday Inn Columbus East

Columbus, Ohio
614-868-1380

This 60,000-square foot enclosed waterpark attraction for Holiday Inn guests opened in the spring of 2006. The hotel's once modest indoor swimming pool is now a full - blown watery adventure. We're talking about a dozen slides, a lazy river, an activity pool and a water fortress as key attractions. The park is available to online guests. Outside guests are only permitted for pre - arranged birthday parties or group outings.

Great Wolf Lodge in Sandusky

Sandusky, Ohio
888-779-2327

This is Sandusky's original theme park. Originally the Great Bear Lodge, this cozy resort opened years before Castaway Bay and Kalahari Sandusky set up camp just a couple of miles away. Yes, the park is just a few miles away from the roller coaster have of Cedar Point. What have we got inside? Well, how about 9 slides, 5 pools, a pair of tube slides - Alberta Falls - covering 626 feet, a lazy river and many more areas of interactive, watery fun.

Kalahari Ohio

Sandusky, Ohio
877-253-5466

Kalahari may have been the third indoor waterpark to open in Sandusky, but it's the biggest. This African-themed resort features an 80,000 square foot indoor waterpark and was further enhanced with a massive outdoor expansion that features a huge heated pool, a family-sized lukewarm jacuzzi, and kiddie play areas. The park includes FlowRiders surf simulator FlowRiders, a powerful 500-foot long Zip Coaster uphill water roller coaster waterslide that goes through neon-lit tubes, lazy river, spas, countless slides and a Wild Kingdom play area for the little ones.

Great Wolf Lodge at Kings Island

Mason, Ohio
 800-608-WOLF

When it opens in the fall of 2006, this will be the largest Great Wolf Resort with 75,000 square feet of fun. Details aren't out yet but, for now, let's look at what Great Wolf packs into its 40,000 square foot park in Kansas City. Bear Track Landing has eight waterslides and five pools. Waterslides include: Alberta Falls: two tube slides covering 626 feet twisting inside and outside the waterpark; Totem Towers: two three -story body slides; Howling Wolf: a three - person toboggan -style ride winding 336 feet throughout the waterpark; and Whooping Hollow: three kiddie slides. You can choose to shoot hoops in one of the activity pools or relax and enjoy your getaway in one of the 20 - person whirlpools. The small cubs can play in the zero - depth entry Cub Paw Pool, featuring interactive water toys like tumbling buckets. Fort Mackenzie is in the center of it all, a 4 - story interactive tree fort features 12 levels of water - based adventure interconnected with suspension bridges, cargo nets and web crawls, as well as over 60 guest - activated water effects. Every 3 to 5 minutes, the huge 48 - foot tall bucket at the top of Fort Mackenzie fills with 1,000 gallons of water and dumps over the entire fort and everyone standing below it. And that's just with 40,000 - square feet. What will the chain do with this park? Nearly twice the size? We can't wait either. The fact that it is being built adjacent to Kings Island - on Kings Island property ( Kings Island has a 15% stake in the venture, as a result of providing the land ) will mean many cross -promotional opportunities.

Splash Bay at Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites
Maumee, Ohio

419-897-5555

In Northern Ohio, Splash Bay opened in October of 2007. The domed waterpark features a kiddy pool, lazy river, and water slides that weave in and out of the building ( still covered while outside, of course ). There is also an arcade to satisfy your dry time gaming urges.

NEVADA

Grand Sierra Resort

Reno, Nevada

The former Hilton property will be home to a massive 150,000 square foot indoor waterpark, possibly as early as 2007. Yes, it's still quite aways away but it's clearly going to be worth it. Employing the same design team behind Kalahari, you know the thrills will be there. The FlowRider simulated surfing experience. The Master Blaster water coaster. Because the early designs call for a 9-story ceiling there may even be an actual roller coaster in the mix as well. The plans are ambitious. Then again, they have to be. The Hilton Reno was purchased for $150 million and the company is hoping the waterpark and hotel makeover will inspire 1.25 million additional guests to make a trek out to see the tropical themed waterpark at Grand Sierra.

OREGON

Lively Park

Springfield, Oregon
541-736-4244

It's one of the best bargains in indoor waterparks. $13 is all it takes for a family of four to enjoy a stay at Lively Park. If you live outside of the district, it's just $15 for the four of you.
What's in the municipal park? There's a wave pool. And the park will provide you with a free tube to use in the wave pool if you would like. You also have a water slide, water basketball, interactive water umbrellas and other play areas.

North Clackamas Aquatic Park

Check the calendar! At least through early 2005 the park was housing monthly dive - in movies showing family fare for just $5.00 per person.

PENNSYLVANIA

Great Wolf Lodge at Pocono Mountains

Pocono Mountains
800-768-WOLF

Set to open in the fall of 2005 in the ski resort area of the Poconos, the latest Great Wolf resort will feature all of the amenities that you have come to expect from the company that is the leader in indoor waterparks. Bear Track Landing is the heart of the park's action with waterslides ( including enclosed ones that venture outside of the building before plunging back indoors ) and swimming pools. Fort MacKenzie is the resort's interactive centerpiece where waterplay is interrupted every so often when the gargantuan bucket tips over, drenching those below it. To take advantage of the summer season, this Great Wolf will also feature Raccoon Lagoon, an outdoor swimming pool with a festive theme.

Splash Lagoon

Erie, Pennsylvania
814-217-1111

While some resorts are built with an indoor waterpark, Splash Lagoon is actually incorporated into three different hotels - and the adjacent Econo Lodge also offers waterpark packages. You don't have to stay at one of the four hotels to enjoy the park - call 814-217-1111 to inquire about day pass availability - but it obviously won't hurt to spend a night or two at one of the hotels ( Holiday Inn, Residence Inn or Comfort Inn ) to truly enjoy the experience. From a 50 - person family whirlpool spa to a series of slides, lazy river, wave pool and interactive kiddie play area, Splash Lagoon has got it all. Just make sure you remember which hotel to go back to at the end of the day! Want to check on some discounted online rates? These may not include admission to Splash Lagoon but they can be purchased as you check in, for the most part. Comfort Inn, Econo Lodge Erie and Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites
